Sunday Afternoons

>> Sunday, June 28, 2009

I love Sunday Afternoon, they are never long enough, but I still love them. Today I am sitting on my couch after a fantastic Sunday roast (thanks mum) watching Mcleod's Daughter's and I am tell you there is nothing better. I know in a few minutes I will have to get up and get going again, but while I am just sitting here its heaps nice.

I am really starting to understand why God wanted us to have a sabbath, it gives us a chance to refresh and spend some time with those we love too. It was a ripper idea he had and I tell you what I am looking forward to a lot more Sunday Afternoons...

I guess that's just all part of the adventure!

Addicted to McLeods

>> Wednesday, June 17, 2009

I am super addicted to McLeod’s Daughters…seriously I can’t get enough and I can’t wait for things to happen…I have been told a few spoilers but for the most part its all new and exciting…I can’t believe that I didn’t get into it when it was actually on TV…seriously I have been missing out. Anyway, don’t tell what happens , just if you love it…or hate it I guess, but even if you hate it, I love it and that’s all that matters! I started watching it because Dad told me it was a good idea to pick a TV series to start so that I could use it as down time, its a trick he used to use in China, and being in the country I thought McLeod's was only appropriate, and it fits Dusty's tried and tested rule its had like 7 seasons or something and was watched by a large proportion of the Australian public... although he says it doesn't count because it's Australian Drama and it only lasted because it was made here, not because it was good, but I disagree...I love it, love it, love it!

I guess that's just all part of the adventure!

Slice Turned Out

>> Tuesday, June 16, 2009

So I took the slice to work…tried to cut it up…very very very very hard so I left it out for a little while hoping it would soften up and it did, but I did warn people not to break their teeth, just in case there were some hard bits hiding…but I guess it turned out ok. Well at least that’s what Dave told me when he tried the leftovers.

I guess that's just all part of the adventure!

Day of Disaster...Cooking tips 3 & 4

>> Monday, June 15, 2009

Today was a day of disaster for two reasons…

This morning as I was on my way to do a talk at the Senior Citizen’s club, I fell over. Not a big deal I hear you say, well it is a little bit embarrassing when you fall while talking to the lady who runs the falls prevention program at the hospital right after you have just had a little slip and recovered you balance and then said something along the lines of ‘My shoes are a little slippery, but they are ok, I think that once I actually fall on my bottom I will have to invest in some new ones’ and then down you go. Yep that’s embarrassing.

The other reason was this:

Tomorrow at work we are having a farewell afternoon tea and everyone else has been telling me what they are going to cook for the event…so feeling a little bit of peer pressure I decided that I would try my hand at making a baked slice to take…a passion fruit and lemon delicious slice. But let me just make one thing very very very clear….just because I am a dietitian, doesn’t mean I can cook and after tonight’s episode I don’t think I should ever try again. Why I hear you ask…well read on.

After work I headed to the supermarket brought all the ingredients I would need and headed home. After I finished my own tea I started the cooking process…I went to preheat my oven and discovered my problem number one, my oven is in Fahrenheit…I should have given up there and then, but no I went and converted the temperature and attempted to keep going. I weighed out all my ingredients which took a lot longer than I would have liked as I had brought 5times the amount of butter I needed and couldn’t work out why things seemed out of proportion. Once they were finally right I went to put them into a bowl…problem number 2 I don’t own mixing bowls… but determined to succeed I put the ingredients into a saucepan and looked at the next step on the recipe…cream the butter. No dramas, electric mixers I did have thanks to mum and dad who had brought a pair while Dad was living in china so I plugged them in and went to mix only to find problem 3, they didn’t work. After playing with them for a little while I finally got them working, but then as put them into the saucepan to mix the ingredients they blew up. Now I understand how ridiculous this all sounds, but it is all true, most people would have counted their losses by this stage but not me, I was not going to let this slice beat me. So I sat down, in tears and began to cream the butter by hand…in my saucepan. Once the butter was finally creamed I decided I should just check my stupid Fahrenheit oven before I combined the rest of the ingredients, this was a good idea and a bad idea because when I checked it…it had turned itself off. So I pushed some buttons check plugs but couldn’t get it to turn back on again, so I had to change out of my PJs and go next store to ask my land lord how it worked. He came over, had a look at it and said ‘I have no idea, I’ve never used it’ but he pushed some more buttons anyway and it came back on. I don’t know why, but it made me feel a bit stupid that a man, who had no idea fixed it. So with the oven back on and all my ingredients combined and ready to go I put it in the oven and let it cook. Once it was done and cooled a little I put it in the fridge ready for tomorrow.

I have no idea what it will taste like…some bits look a little burnt and other bits way to soggy, but I tried and if all else fails in the morning…I will got to the IGA in the morning and buy something. But it has given me this...cooking tips with Emma number 3 and 4

TIP 3: Read the signs...if the oven is in Fahrenheit and the mixers blow up...give up, it's not worth the stress.

TIP 4: Make sure you always have a mixing bowl. Saucepans are not as good a swap as they appear.

I guess that's just all part of the adventure!

Songs of Praise

>> Sunday, June 14, 2009

This morning at the 11am service in Church they did their own rendition of songs of praise, with a few choice people talking about their favourite ‘song of praise’. Anyway one of the choice people was Davo and he talked about the old chorus ‘All that I am’ and it reminded me of how much I love this chorus too. In fact there are probably 3 old songs/hymns whatever you want to call them that I really really love and I thought that I would share with you today my own songs of praise…well just a little bit of each:
All that I am:

All that I am, All I can be,
All that I have, All that is me,
Except and use Lord , as you would choose Lord,
Right now today.

Take every passion, every skill,
Take all my dreams and bend them to your will,
My all I give Lord, for you I’ll live Lord,
Come what may

Oh how he loves you and me:

Oh how he loves you and me,
Oh how he loves you and me,
He gave his life, what more could he give?
Oh how he loves you
Oh how he loves me
Oh how he loves you and me.

I Love you Lord:

I Love you Lord, and I lift my voice
To worship you, oh my soul, rejoice
Take joy, my King, in what you hear,
Let it be a sweet, sweet sound in your ear.
I think the reason I love these songs soooo much is that they help me to put my focus back where it needs to be…they are direct and but gentle…and they remind me of who I am, who I am called to be and how much Jesus loves me. They are words I can keep in my heart for when I need them…

Kristy...what a gem

>> Saturday, June 13, 2009

I am not so good at saying goodbye, I am much better at saying thanks and I love you…so instead of using this blog to say goodbye to my amazing friend Kristy, I am going to use it to say thank you and I love you.

So Kristy, I just wanted you to know that I love you stacks and that I will miss you. Angel's and Demons

>> Friday, June 12, 2009

I love it when you read a book and then a few years later they make a movie about it and you can remember the vague idea and some of the story but not the end, and it surprises you all over again...seriously its good.

Tonight I went saw the movie Angels and Demons based on the Dan brown novel. I read the book in my first or second year of uni and loved it (in fact so much so I concreted my nerd status even more because everywhere I went I took and read this book). But as I was watching at the movies with Mum, Dad, Jake, Jono and Dave i realised I could remember the end but not how they got there and it all caught me by surprise again, and it was even more exciting that I could have imagined it would be.

oh and just as a side note...I love the cinema experience...every time

I guess that's just all part of the adventure!

It's just nice to sit

>> Thursday, June 11, 2009

So even though its taken me a long time to learn this, sometimes its nice just to sit...with nothing to do and just enjoy the good'ol telly...its not so fun to go go go all the time, even though I often think that I can, sometimes its nice to just sit.

The things you learn when you have to grow up and get a real job.

Enough Space for Everyone

>> Wednesday, June 10, 2009

Some people claim that they can get through life just by themselves with no one else, but I am not really sure how they do that…it doesn’t seem possible to me and even if it possible, it seems kinda boring.

Since I have moved up to Castlemaine I have made lots of new friends and tonight after work I went out with some of them to a little Mexican restaurant for drinks (don’t worry I just had a diet coke) then from there I raced back into Melbourne to catch up with some of my old friends from my days at school.

Its nice that even though more people come into your life it doesn’t mean you have to push out the ones that were already there.

The most random thing of the night however, was when I finally got to my Melbourne friends the Jonas brothers were there…don’t panic not the real Jonas brothers, just two random internationals that Alicia had brought along for the ride, who both happened to be called Jonas…

I guess that's just all part of the adventure!

SYG...there's nothing like it

>> Monday, June 8, 2009

There is nothing better than sleeping out in a tent in the middle of winter on the long weekend in June…well actually there a lot of things that are better, but none as fun! State youth games is one of those things that you really have to be at to understand, and even then some still don’t get it. But that’s where I have been all weekend. Camping and playing sport…probably the most un me things you could ever think of, but I love it. There were highs and lows and some random bits in between but here is a bit of a run down of what you missed…

Saturday morning (after a little panic about forgetting to do something for work for the weekend) our mixed netball team was awesome, losing the grand final by a goal after the siren…

Saturday night I watched Davo score a try in touch footy on the highlights video...man I have a good looking boyfriend!

Sunday morning I was in my choice sport BADMINTON, and after coming 2nd in the open ladies last year I was hungry for victory only to be taken out by a young Asian lady who was only there to play badminton…that’s right she didn’t even stay for the day, just in and out to kick my but. I feel I was robbed, that she stole what was rightfully mine…but lets not get into that shall we…all I have to say is 2010 is my time!

Sunday arvo I played a new sport…the worst sport ever…thunder hockey…sounds cool, but its not…at all

Monday after cheering my little lungs out for Davo in the mountain biking and then finally packing up my stuff, I made it to the closing ceremony just in time to find out that we came 1st in the medium church division…pretty ace if you ask me…ahh Box Hill you’ve done it again...

And it all happen again a year from now.

I guess that's just all part of the adventure!

20 Questions

>> Friday, June 5, 2009

Just so you know…20 Questions is pretty much the best game ever…as long as you are the one asking the questions…and it doesn’t get too far out of hand, like it could tonight…still the best game ever though…just ask Kitty, Ben or Davo

I guess that's just all part of the adventure!

Prince of Eygpt

>> Thursday, June 4, 2009

I love musical theatre, and I especially love it when its musical theatre that I know all the words to…and tonight I was truly in my element. Tonight I went and watched some of my new friends in their school musical, well 2 of the kids and dad, and it was great.

They did the Prince of Egypt…one of my favourite cartoon movies (even though its not Disney). There is nothing that I don’t like about this movie, its got everything I love, song, dance, the bible, humor, a good story, a happy ending…everything and now that is was in stage production form…what more could you want?

During the evening though, Susanne and Quentin were commenting about the tragic turn in my social life if this was a good night out for me. But little did they know, that I love this kind of stuff and even though it was a school play, I had a really great night, and if that makes me tragic…I don’t care.

I guess that's just all part of the adventure!

I'm a nerd...but I'm published

>> Wednesday, June 3, 2009

So I was at uni for four years…and my course unlike many others…was long and full time, not just arts full time where you get like 12 hours a week, but full time full time, with like 25 contact hours spread across Monday to Friday, full on. And like most uni courses I did lots of projects and essays and put them in the submit box with not much thought, never expecting them to be used for anything other than a pass on my degree.

However, today I went to the launch of a project that used my work…yep my work. Last year, for 6weeks, 3 other Deakin girls and I worked away at making maps which were used as part of a needs assessment project and today that completed project got launched.
As I walked into the launch venue, I looked up to see my maps (and the others’ from Deakin’s team PCP’s) maps on the walls in all their glory! Now I know that’s its pretty dorky…and yes I am a bit of nerd, but I was so excited to see that something that I did as ‘just another assignment’ at uni actually helped something and map a difference. Oh and that I am now published! You have to admit, as nerdy as it is, its pretty cool.

Anyway, I was a bit excited about it so I wanted to share it with the world…check it our for yourself…here’s the link
http://www.oehcsa.infoxchange.net.au/library/public/items/2009/06/284025-upload-00001.pdf

If you want, you can even print it off and I will sign it…just so you know

I guess that's just all part of the adventure!
